Course program

During this intermediate 2 day metal 'clay' and silverwork course running over one weekend (10:00-17:00hrs each day) in Eastbourne, East Sussex, you will learn the secrets of making pure silver (PMC or Art Clay) rings, suitable for men and women, that fit like a glove, and will make at least two hallmark-quality silver 'clay' rings.
You will also learn how to size and make sterling silver narrow band rings, and will be introduced to traditional silverwork skills, using a jeweller's piercing saw, files and hammers to forge your own skinny ring. On day 2, more experienced students can choose to make a sterling silver skinny ring shank topped with a silver embellishment or charm instead, or can work on a more complex 'built' metal clay ring to be fired after the course.

On day 1, you will design and make at least two hallmark-quality rings from mouldable silver 'clay', decorating the rings with textures, patterns, embellishments or lettering, and learning how to overcome sizing issues inherent in metal clay rings.
Your rings are then fired overnight in our kiln, and you return the next morning to finish them. On day 2, you shape and polish your metal clay rings, and then spend the day making one or more sterling silver skinny rings using traditional silverwork skills (more experienced students may either make sterling silver skinny rings with soldered-on metal clay charms, skinny rings with tiny bezel-set gemstones using purchased bezel cups, or may make a more complex 'built' metal clay ring, for firing after the course).
Whatever your level of experience, you can expect to design and make a minimum of two beautiful and unique solid silver rings during the course, and fast workers may make many more!

Please note that this is a Level 2 workshop, and is only suitable for those with prior experience of working with PMC or Art Clay (precious metal or silver clay) or for students who have completed our Level 1 Beginnings in Silver workshop, or another introductory metal clay day. Stone-setting is not covered on this course.
