Anyone using or purchasing pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. This training prepares you for the NPTC assessments for PA1 & PA6 units
Suitable for Landscaping & grounds maintenance staff, council workers and Forestry & Arboricultural uses.

The entire course is classroom based. The first day covers the PA1 foundation module training. This includes the approved codes of practice, storage, mixing and use, COSHH, risk assessments, hazard awareness, safe disposal and record keeping.

The second day covers the PA6 (Knapsack sprayer) option which takes you outside for the practical use of the knapsack sprayer. You will be shown the protective equipment options, site safety, selecting & measuring chemicals, use of the sprayer, cleaning and safe disposal, storage & transport.

You will only be using simulated chemicals during the training and assessment.

Requirements:Basic Literacy & numeracy skills are required, you will be given workbooks and you will be able to use a calculator for the mixing calculations if you would prefer. Equipment is available for the training although most people prefer to bring their own. You will need to have some equipment available for the practical assessments which are usually about 2 to 4 weeks after the training. The PA1 assessments are usually arranged to take place immediately after the training but this cannot be guaranteed. The PA1 assessments take about 15 - 20 minutes on a laptop.

What should you bring to the course? Day 1 – You may find a calculator useful on Day 1
Day 2 -Steel toe-capped workboots, loose non-snag work overalls, Unlined Nitrile gloves, protective suit, face shield, one passport photo and National Insurance number.

NPTC Assessments are arranged and held once training has been completed. Paperwork and application forms for these tests are usually completed during the course and forwarded to the independent assessment centre on behalf of the trainee. Trainees are then contacted direct to make their payment and arrange a date for the test.
The PA1 assessment is a computer based, multiple choice test – this takes approx. 30 mins.
Practical assessments (PA2 – PA12) are both written and verbal questions –The PA6 to PA12 tests take approx. 2+hrs each, PA2 to PA5 tests take 3+hrs.

Pre-requisites The foundation module (PA1) must be taken prior to any other module – although the test can be taken immediately prior to the PA2 or PA6. For PA2 the operator must be trained and certificated in the vehicle that the sprayer is mounted on.

All trainees must be over 16 years of age, in good health and with reasonable literacy & numeracy skills. Computer literacy requirements are not high and there will be assistance on hand if required – however, if you think you may require assistance with either the written or computer tests you must notify the assessment centre at the time of booking. Persons with certain ailments or on certain medication may not be able to take part in the practical sessions
