The DTLLS qualification is required for those carrying out a full teaching role who need to gain QTLS. You will also be a qualified Assessor.
Once you have completed DTLLS, it will enable you to be employed in a Full Teacher role and apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS). Due to similarities in the units you can now gain both your Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector Level 5 and Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, for very little extra work. Qualified Assessors are highly sought after within vocational education and holding this qualification will greatly increase your chances of finding employment as a teacher.

Requirements:Access to 100 hours of teaching (8 hours will be observed) Hold a relevant vocational and/or academic qualification in the sector you wish to teach. At least a Level 3 qualification is required for specialisms. Candidates will ideally also have: A First Degree A professional qualification recognised at practitioner level Relevant industrial/commercial experience at an appropriate practitioner level.

Group L – The Lifelong Learning Sector (Bright Assignments for this unit are):
- Teaching in a Specialist Subject
- Assessing Occupational Competence (Completed as part of the Assessor course)
As previously stated you must provide evidence of 100 teaching hours. This will be in the form of a teaching log and must include a detailed list of when your observations were carried out. The teaching log consists of a lesson plan and evaluation of each hour of teaching.

Course Delivery
Once registered you can access your course from anywhere in the world as long as you have internet access. We allocate all learners with a mentor who guides you through the course, providing feedback at each stage and they will complete 3 of the 8 required observations. You receive access to your online course materials within 1 hour of registration – each module covers a different aspect of the course and includes activities. The course consists of 17 units and 10 lengthy assignments.

You will also complete practical assessments on 2 candidates for the Assessor qualification. Bright provide the candidates for you however you are more than welcome to use your own if you have access to them.

Course Length
The total guided learning hours for the DTLLS course is 360 plus 100 hours teaching. On average Bright learners complete the full DTLLS Course in just 6-12 months, less if you have already completed any of the units previously. The course is done entirely at your own pace and your mentor is there to help keep you on track.

What about existing qualifications?
At Bright we have a variety of course options available depending on the prior knowledge of our learners. If you feel you already hold a certificate that would mean you were exempt from completing a part of the DTLLS Diploma, our course advisors will be able to confirm this for you.

What Happens Afterwards?
Once you have completed your DTLLS Level 5 units your portfolio will then be sent for final External Verification. Once this has been completed you can be employed in a Full Teacher Role and apply for your Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS) with the Institute for Learning (IfL). If you choose the Assessor Route you will also be a fully qualified Assessor of vocational learning within your sector.
